Duchess Kate had serious' surgery in youth

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Britain's Duchess of Cambridge revealed a scar related to a "very serious" childhood operation at an event last night.

Kate made her first official solo appearance since marrying Prince William at a charity dinner in London on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old royal wore a blue floor length chiffon gown to the In Kind Direct black-tie event held at Clarence House.

Her hair was worn partially up, displaying a three-inch long scar on her head behind her left temple.

"The scar is related to a childhood operation. [A] very serious operation, " a spokesman for the duchess told British newspaper The Daily Mail.

The spokesperson did not disclose the exact nature of her previous procedure. Experts do not believe that the surgery was a result of a significant ailment.

"I really doubt it was any serious condition and I would say it is as a result of an arteriovenous malformation - a birthmark - being removed," London based surgeon John Scurr told the newspaper.

The scar aside, the duchess was said to look radiant at the function.

"She is more beautiful in person than you can imagine, she literally wowed the room," a source revealed. "She looked amazing."

Kate was asked to stand in for her father-in-law Prince Charles, at the last minute.

Charles was due to host the charity event, but instead had to fly to Riyadh following the death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. (C) Cover Media
