Ewan McGregor ignored uncle's movie tip

(Cover) - EN Movies - Ewan McGregor is glad he didn't follow his uncle's advice regarding Star Wars.

The 40-year-old Scottish movie star famously portrayed young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and has discussed how his decision to appear in the franchise was a tough one.

Ewan is related to 63-year-old actor Denis Lawson, who played X-wing pilot Wedge Antilles in the three original Star Wars films which began with 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. At first Ewan was unsure about continuing a family association with the epic sci-fi franchise.

"I was a big fan of the films and was really familiar with the first three because my uncle Denis Lawson had been in them, but when they were casting the new ones it didn't feel like something I was doing at the time," he revealed in an interview for The Graham Norton Show.

"I was making British independent films and I didn't think it was really me but as I got closer and closer to being cast in it I wanted to do it more and more so I rang people like Denis, who said, 'If you want to have a career after 30 don't do it.' Luckily I didn't listen to him."

Since starring in the final movie in the prequel trilogy, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, in 2005, Ewan has achieved plenty of variety in his career, starring in comedies such as 2010's Beginners and bigger budget pictures like 2009's Angels & Demons. (C) Cover Media
