January 12, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Directed by Sean McNamara, the upcoming film Soul Surfer has got its first teaser trailer out in the web. It is based on a true story of surfer Bethany Hamilton, who turned out as a surf icon when she fought back to surfing after losing her left arm at the age of 13 years.
American actress 17-year old Anna Sophia Robb plays the role of Hamilton in this film, which also opens Hollywood gate for music singer Carrie Underwood. She essays the character of a church youth leader, who offers a great support to Hamilton to come out of her loss.
Apart from directing the film, Sean McNamara has also co-written the script of this biopic along with Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Deborah Schwartz. This inspirational film will also see Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid as the parents of Hamilton.
In real life, Hamilton lost her arms while she went for surfing along Tunnels Beach, Kauai with her friend Alana Blanchard and Alanas parents. This happened on 31st October, 2003. She lost around 70% of her blood after this attack but somehow remained alive. A feet long tiger shark attacked her when she was resting sideways on her surfboard. Her left arm was dangling in water and that was taken away by the shark.
The inspirational movie is going to hit the theaters on April 8.
