(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Freida Pinto chose her latest film because it had a good script not because of a big paycheque.
The gorgeous Indian actress enjoyed a quick rise to international fame after appearing in Danny Boyles 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire. Before she landed a lead role in the feel-good film as Latika, Pinto presented a travel show and modelled in her home country.
She insists she doesnt make movie choices based on cash, and will only appear in films which are real and have some soul.
The 26-year-old whose latest effort is called Miral explained the offers she received after her breakthrough werent to her liking.
I was given scripts that were commercial, big budget films and I read a couple of them and thought it wasnt right for me, Pinto said. It seemed a bit too gimmicky straight after doing such a fabulous film like Slumdog.
So I wanted to invest my energy and my emotions into something that was intense and challenging. Where I could continue to be taken seriously.
Pinto believes Miral, which is based on Rula Jebreals novel, was the logical next step in her career. She plays the title character, who grows up in a Jerusalem orphanage following the division of Palestine and Israel.
My next project had to be something I really believed in, like I believed in Slumdog Millionaire. I just loved the script, there was something so real about it, something so current. It made sense to do that as my follow-up project, the actress commented. And you cant say no to [director] Julian Schnabel, he is just such an amazing filmmaker. It was the most natural thing to do, to say yes to him. (C) Cover Media
