(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gerard Butler reveals that he got into many "accidents" while filming movies.
The 41-year-old actor stars in upcoming film Machine Gun Preacher. Gerard portrays Sam Childers, an ex drug dealer who becomes a crusader for Sudanese children who are forced to become soldiers.
According to Us Weekly, the fast-paced action filled film was the source of many injuries for Gerard.
"Listen, you do a movie like this and you get into a few accidents," Gerard told reporters at Machine Gun Preacher's Beverly Hills premiere on Wednesday. "I ripped a tendon here [points to his groin area above left leg] in the same scene when I am running to save the kids. It still is an issue and then I was shot twice in the head by Souleymane [Sy Savane]."
The shots to the head were thankfully not mortal injuries. Still, Gerard was stunned by the wound.
"It was a shell. I know, it sounds better to say shell, but the shell hit me and I was pouring with blood," Gerard explained. "Finally about 20 minutes later we got the bleeding to stop and then another shell hit me within half an inch of the first one. Slit my head again and then I realised it was an issue with where I was standing."
Gerard eventually found the proper place to stand to avoid getting hit by speedy bullet shells. He admits that the experience was terrifying.
"It's always scary when you get hit by a moving object that's hot and travelling very fast," Gerard said. "It takes you by surprise."
Although getting injured on set is not pleasant, Gerard is more than willing to take the risk. He is currently pushing his body to the maximum again in his next project Mavericks, where he plays a surfer and has no qualms about the process.
"I have been surfing, too, so I sort of beat myself up there obviously falling off a lot," Gerard said. "But to be honest, I love this s**t!" (C) Cover Media
