Gwyneth Paltrow reveals meaningful' Emmy win

22nd September 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gwyneth Paltrow says winning an Emmy was particularly "meaningful" as her father was nominated nine times but never triumphed.

The actress was incredibly close to her father Bruce Paltrow, who passed away in 2002.

She was presented with a Creative Arts Emmy Award for her portrayal of Holly Holliday in Glee this year, which Gwyneth knows would have impressed Bruce.

"So nearly two weeks ago, getting everyone settled in back to school mode, I woke up to a huge surprise: I had won a Creative Arts Emmy for my guest role on Glee! This was especially meaningful, as my father (who made great TV shows back in the day The White Shadow, St. Elsewhere) had been nominated and lost the Emmys nine times," she wrote in her weekly GOOP newsletter. "So I'm pretty chuffed about the whole thing. And my dad would have been over the moon."

Gwyneth was asked to present at the main Emmys show, which took place in Los Angeles last weekend. The star kept a diary of the whole day so fans could get a feel for what the experience was like.

The actress' day started at 4.23am when she woke up. She flew in to Los Angeles from London, so woke early due to jet lag.

After sending some business emails Gwyneth headed to the gym at 7am, where she completed a two hour workout. After that she enjoyed a lengthy facial, before she started prepping for her red carpet appearance at 2pm.

After walking the red carpet in her stomach-baring frock Gwyneth took her seat, which wasn't that enjoyable.

"It's a minute to show time, and I find my seat in the second row (right behind the cast of 30 Rock!) The seat filler before me was sweaty so my chair was wet. Gross!" she explained.

Gwyneth then waited to present the award for best comedy series, which went to Modern Family. Unfortunately the teleprompter broke so the star had to make things up while she went along.

She enjoyed the experience though, and celebrated by having a pasta dinner after it was finished. (C) Cover Media
