Gwyneth Paltrow wins Emmy

11th September 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gwyneth Paltrow has won an Emmy Award for her appearance in Glee.

The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony was held in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night. It saw many of the behind-the-scenes prizes being handed out, with the main ceremony taking place next weekend.

Gwyneth was named best guest actress in a comedy series, thanks to her portrayal of substitute teach Holly Holliday in musical comedy Glee. She was up against Tina Fey in the category and although Gwyneth has previously spoken of her excitement at the nomination she wasn't at the ceremony.

Another big name to be honoured was Justin Timberlake, who won the best guest actor in a comedy series for his hosting turn on Saturday Night Live.

Loretta Devine was named best guest actress in a drama series for her part as Adele Webber in Grey's Anatomy. The male version of the prize went to Paul McCrane for his portrayal of Assistant District Attorney Josh Peyton in Harry's Law.

Jeff Probst was once again best reality competition host for Survivor, the fourth time he's bagged the trophy. Deadliest Catch won the outstanding reality programme prize, as well as three other awards.

The big story of the night was drama Boardwalk Empire, which picked up seven statues. Among the prizes it received were best casting, best art direction, outstanding special effects and outstanding cinematography. The prohibition-era drama has been nominated for 18 Emmy Awards overall this year.

Next week's Emmys ceremony will be hosted by Jane Lynch at the Nokia Theatre.
