The actress known for her infectious smile, Brittany Murphy would have turned 34 today. A lead singer of the 90’s band 'Blessed With Soul', Murphy was also a voice artist and an actress. Having starred in films including Clueless, Just Married, Girl Interrupted, Spun, 8 Mile, Uptown Girls, Sin City, Happy Feet and Riding in Cars with Boys, Brittany also voiced Luanne Platter on the animated TV series King of the Hill. Her last film, Something Wicked, was released on August 25, 2011, almost two years after her death.
Murphy was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 10, 1977, to Sharon Kathleen Murphy and Angelo Joseph Bertolotti. She was raised by her mother in Edison, New Jersey, after her parents divorced when she was two. Brittany Murphy later moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Though, before moving to Los Angeles, she was trained in singing, dancing and acting from the age of four. She did her Broadway debut in A View From The Bridge in 1997. Her Hollywood debut was with Drexell's Class, an American sitcom, as Brenda Drexell.
She appeared in several films like Clueless (1995), Girl, Interrupted (1999), Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), Don't Say a Word (2001), 8 Mile (2002) and Uptown Girls (2003). In 2009, she was cast in Tribute, the Lifetime TV movie, as the lead character. She also sang "Faster Kill Pussycat" for the album A Lively Mind, which became a club hit, and for Happy Feet, she voiced for Gloria's character. She related Gloria with herself to a very large extent.
Murphy began dating her Just Married co-star, Ashton Kutcher, in late 2002. After going through turmoil in personal relationships, she married British screenwriter Simon Monjack in May 2007. On December 20, 2009, she collapsed in the bathroom of her Los Angeles home and was pronounced to be dead on being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, owing to cardiac arrest. She will always be remembered as one charming actress.
