A Singer, dancer and an actor, Hugh Jackman does it all and with such elan that this Australian actor has become a favourite of millions all over the world. The actor, often known more for his role in X-Men, as Wolverine, celebrates his birthday today!

Hugh Jackman was born on October 12, 1968 in Sydney, Australia. Although acting was not his first choice as a career, it was always his hobby, his passion. He was once quoted saying, "It wasn't until I was 22 that I ever thought about my hobby being something I could make a living out of." 

Initially Hugh Jackman started off his career through theatre and stage musicals. His early film work includes 'Erskineville Kings' and 'Paperback Hero' (1999), and his television work includes 'Law of the Land', 'Blue Heelers' and Banjo Paterson's 'The Man from Snowy River'.

Jackman has won international recognition for his roles in major films, notably as action or superhero, period and romance characters. He is known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men series, as well as for his lead role in Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing, The Prestige and Australia. Hugh Jackman has won a lot of awards and accredition for his performances. He won a Tony Award for his role in The Boy from Oz.

Apart from acting, Hugh Jackman is a philanthropist. A few of his works include him being a a World Vision ambassador, a global advisor of the Global Poverty Project and a vocal supporter of Muhammad Yunus- the microcredit pioneer and the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner. 

Hugh Jackman is a committed man, to his work as well as his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and they both have two children Oscar and Ava.

On the professional front, Jackman is all set to reprise his role as Wolverine in the next movie from the "X-Men" series.
