The iconic singer of India, the one whom no other singer can duplicate, the one and only Lata Mangeshkar turns 86 as she celebrates her birthday today 28th September 2015.

The legendary singer was born in a musical family which includes the likes of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and hence obviously music was in her blood but who would have thought that this prodigy would go on to etch her name forever in the history books as one of the greatest singers, if not the greatest, of India. 

Lata started her career in bollywood in the 1940's and recorded many memorable songs for numerous films, especially the 1949 film 'Mahal', in which she sang the song 'Aayega Aanewala'. This song became so popular that all the phone lines were flooded at the time inquiring about the singer's name. After this film, there was simply no looking back for Lata.

Well, having said so much about her, it's pretty obvious that Lata has won many awards throughout her illustrious career. She won National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her songs in the films 'Parichay', 'Kora Kagaz' and 'Lekin'.

In addition to this, Lata has also won Filmfare Award for her work in the films 'Madhumati', 'Bees Saal Baad', 'Khandan', 'Jeene Ki Raah' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'.

Undoubtedly, Lata Mangeshkar has nothing left to prove in her career as she has already etched her name as one of the greatest singers the country has ever produced and her superstardom is so gigantic that aspiring singers of today consider her their idol and dream to replicate the amount of success which she has achieved in her career.
