Born in a Hindu Rajput family on 31st January, 1975, it is her birthday today. Her father was an army officer and his life had a lasting impression on her. She describes herself as being a Tomboy when she was a child. She was completely dedicated to her studies and wanted to become a psychologist. In fact, she even completed her post-graduate degree in Criminal Psychology but later, she took up modelling.
Her first public appearance was through the TV commercial for Perk. After this hse auditioned for a role for Shekhar Kapur's film who recommended her for a role in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se. That became her big debut. She next acted in Soldier and won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut forboth- Soldier and Dil Se. After this, she went on to work in Telugu films. There was no looking back for her. She went on to work with many big banners and rest, as we know, is history.
Her work is not restricted to the Indian film industry. Her first International project was in the Canadian Film Heaven On Earth for which she was awarded the Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival, Genie Award by Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Vacouver Film Critics Circle.
Preity Zinta has also written several coulumns for BBC News Online South Asia, is an active Social activist and a television presenter. She also performs at many stage shows. Preity Zinta is the first person ever to get the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award for not retracting her statement in the Bharat Shah case against the Mumbai Underworld.
Zinta is also a co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kings XI Punjab along with her ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia. In 2011, she started her own production house PZNZ Media and is set to star in the first film under the banner, Ishkq In Paris.
