Harry Potter stars thrilled with BAFTA award

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rupert Grint thinks its amazing that the Harry Potter films will receive a prize for outstanding British contribution to cinema at the upcoming BAFTA Awards.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hosts an annual awards ceremony to honour achievement in cinema, and organisers have announced the Harry Potter franchise will be honoured with a special prize at this years ceremony on February 13.

The franchise about life at a school for witches and wizards is coming to an end with the final instalment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 due for release this summer.

It has been hugely successful, and the movies producer David Heyman will receive the award on behalf of the franchise along with author J.K. Rowling, who wrote the childrens books the movies are based on.

The movies main stars are British actors Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, and the latter has expressed how much this gong means to him.

"Thank you so much BAFTA for this amazing award," he is quoted as saying. His co-star Emma described the prize as a huge honour and Daniel praised the people behind the scenes of the movie.

"To me the real heroes are the crew and the huge team of craftsmen that have made all eight of them possible," he beamed. "This award is a testament to their incredible work."

Beginning in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the seven films released so far are believed to have earned more than $5.4 billion worldwide. BAFTA organisers have praised the films for highlighting the expertise within the British craft and technical industries".

This year's BAFTA ceremony will take place on February 13 at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. (C) Cover Media
