Hugh Jackman linked to Les Misrables

16th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in a movie adaptation of Les Misrables.

The Australian hunk is no stranger to musical productions, having won a Tony Award for his role in The Boy from Oz. However, if he lands a role in the movie, this would be the first time Hugh has displayed his singing talents on the big screen.

Hugh has been linked to the role of Jean Valjean, a man who is imprisoned for stealing bread for his starving sister. When is released from jail, Valjean tries to reinvent his life and begins caring for a young woman called Cosette, but he can't leave the past behind him as he is hounded by bitter police officer Javert.

Paul Bettany is reportedly being considered for the role of Javert. William Nicholson has written a script, while The King's Speech filmmaker Tom Hooper will direct the picture.

Les Misrables - which is based on the book by Victor Hugo - is played out during the 19th century French rebellion, and is one of the most successful theatre productions ever. (C) Cover Media
