Imtiaz elated with success of 'Highway'

3rd March 2014
Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has been famous for his films which still hold on to the idea of eternal love.

Right from 'Socha Na Tha' to 'Rockstar', each of his films talked about various forms of love and how this heavenly equation binds strangers together.

His latest release 'Highway' too plays on the same emotion but on a different level all together.

The film revolves around the lives of two strangers on an unusual journey that changes the course of their lives.

The film opened to great critic reviews but lukewarm audience response.

As the film is very different from main stream Indian cinema, it had a slow start, but citing the praises coming from all ends, it has been going steady at the box office.

Imtiaz who took this huge risk of making an out of the mill film is happy that the film is doing well.

'Highway' was made on a budget of Rs. 18.25 crore and according to Imtiaz, the film earned Rs. 15.50 crore before its release. It made Rs. 22.38 crore from 800 screens in its first week of release. He who turned producer with 'Highway' claims that the film was his effort to have more creative freedom.

"With 'Highway' I was trying to plant a seed. How else do you create an elbow room for yourself? I want to direct what I feel is interesting not what is supposed to be my zone. I don't want it to be narrow. It was a huge risk as I was into completely uncharted territory but luckily it paid off," said Imtiaz.

He has started working on his next with Ranbir Kapoor already and is looking forward to carry forward the momentum garnered from 'Highway' as an inspiration to do better work.
