Jennie Garth says the hardest thing about her divorce is the timing.

Peter Facinelli has filed for divorce from Jennie citing irreconcilable differences following an 11-year union.

Jennie has been open about her struggles with the split, admitting she didn't believe it was happening when Peter first suggested breaking up.

The actress is currently promoting her new reality programme Little Bit Country and has struggled with the constant questions about her romantic status.

"[The timing] has probably been the hardest part," she said on Today this morning.

"When I started to take this show on, I wasn't headed down this road. It happened in the middle of filming the show. Now, part of my job... is doing press so I'm doing the interviews and people want to talk about it. I'm OK talking about [my divorce], but it's not something you really want to talk about."

There has been a lot of speculation about what caused the split and none of this has gone unnoticed by Jennie. She has kept a sense of humour throughout though.

"I enjoyed the quote that I was envious of his fame," she laughed. "There was nothing like that going on. I was very happy for him so happy to be at home with the kids and enjoying my early retirement. I just wanted to be on the farm."

Jennie and Twilight star Peter have three children together and have vowed not to let their break-up affect their ability to co-parent.
