Jim Sturgess: My new movie is intense

7th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jim Sturgess has joked that director Peter Weir can control the weather.

British actor Jim appears in Peters movie The Way Back, alongside Colin Farrell, Ed Harris and Saoirse Ronan.

The fact-based film recounts the story of soldiers who escaped from a Siberian gulag in 1940, and was set in extreme weather conditions in the desert.

Jim has teased that Peter must be at one with the weather Gods, because whenever a particular type of climate was required for shooting, the temperature would change to fit the movie.

Peter has friends in some very high places, laughed Jim in an interview with the BBC.

Peter was also present at the interview, and did nothing to quash the actors teasing claims. The director thinks there probably is an element of coincidence though.

We had our wind machines and not two hours before, a sand storm was heading through, recalled the talented moviemaker. If we needed snow, snow came.

Jim is immensely proud of the film, which he described as being pretty intense to shoot. Peter is equally pleased with the final product, revealing how important it was for him that the movie was historically accurate.

I wanted everything to be sourced back to a survivors account or a book written by a survivor, he explained. (C) Cover Media
