Jon Hamm says that his recent jibe at Kim Kardashian was not "personal."
The Mad Men star had told Elle UK that reality stars like Kim and Paris Hilton were "f**king idiots."
Kim responded on her Twitter page saying that her accomplishments spoke for themselves and that his opinion of her was "careless."
But now the 41-year-old actor says that he's baffled that the whole incident is making the headlines.
"It's surprising to me that it has become remotely a story," Jon told E! News.
"I don't know Ms. Kardashian. I know her public persona. What I said was meant to be more on pervasiveness of something in our culture, not personal.
"But she took offence to it, and that is her right."
Jon claimed in his interview that being a "f**king idiot" had become valuable commodity.
"We're at a place where the idea of being elite' is somehow considered a negative," he told the magazine.
"Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated."
Kim asserted that "not everyone takes the same path in life."
