Kanye West records Winehouse tribute'

18th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kanye West has recorded a version of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black in tribute to the star.

The rapper is due in London to celebrate menswear company Moss Bros' 160th anniversary soon, which is apparently when he will unveil the song.

Amy was found dead at her London home last month, and her cause of death isn't yet known. She was 27 and it's thought Kanye was keen to show how much her music touched him.

"It's pretty emotive. It's Kanye singing from the heart with synthesisers," a source explained to British newspaper The Daily Mirror.

It won't be the first time the American rapper has honoured Amy using music. Her performed at the UK's Big Chill festival earlier this month, and took the opportunity to play some of her songs. He sang Tears Dry On Their Own and Back to Black and explained to the crowd why her death had hit him so hard.

"I was at Paris fashion week a few years ago with my fiance at that time. We went to a house party and I met this beautiful, amazing, talented and funny woman. This is in memory of her," he said, before launching into the songs.

However, relations between Amy and Kanye weren't always so calm. She performed at the Glastonbury music festival in 2008 and was rude about the rapper on stage.

Discussing how exciting it was that Jay-Z was performing, Amy said: "Imagine if it was a **** like Kanye West - ****s like Kanye should be his next album title!"

Kanye laughed off the comments, writing on his website he'd "really made it" now Amy hated him. (C) Cover Media
