It is an upcoming biographical film based on the life of former cricket captain of India Kapil Dev who played a major role in India's 1983 world cup success at Lords stadium, London on June 25, 1983. Moreover, the role will be essayed by none other than the 'Padmaavat' lead actor Ranveer Singh. The film on team India's first ever World Cup win and is officially set to release on August 30, 2019.

Earlier, the film was set to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan but for some reason, the director who also won a National Award for his movie 'Lahore' opted out. After his exit, director Kabir Khan took the project. As it is the entire team India of those time, major casting is still left and the film will go on floors as soon as the final cast is selected. 

Ranveer Singh announced the news by reposting the films official page post. He captioned the pic with the entire 1983 world cup team that read ''Repost from @83thefilm using @RepostRegramApp - Mark your calendar! '83 will be releasing on 30th August, 2019. '83 stars @ranveersingh. Directed by @kabirkhankk. @reliance.entertainment @fuhsephantom." 

The film is titled '83' and is co-produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Vibri Media and founder of CCL along with Phantom Films. Meanwhile, Ranveer is busy with the shoot of Zoya Akhtar's 'Gully Boy' next to Alia Bhatt.
