Kate Winslet is considering appearing on stage with Bill Nighy.

The Oscar-winning actress is not known for her theatre work, having previously only treaded the boards in Manchester when she was 19.

It's now been suggested she feels ready to appear in a play and has been discussing the possibility with playwright David Hare.

According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, Kate is in talks to appear in Skylight.

"The plan, at least on paper, is for Bill Nighy to star as Tom Sargeant a famous restaurateur who meets a former mistress with whom he'd had an affair while his wife was still alive," reports Baz Bamigboye in the publication

"Kyra Hollis, the ex-lover who lives in self-exile in a garret studio, to atone for the illicit liaison, is the role Kate would take if the play goes ahead."

Kate is said to be trying to free up her diary so she can appear in the production at the end of the year.

Sources close to the 36-year-old says she is "in love" with the story and is desperate to take part in it. However, until she works out her schedule it remains unknown if the plans will go ahead.

At the moment it hasn't been decided whether the play will be staged in London's West End or in the Broadway district of New York City.

David's work was first staged in 1995, with Michael Gambon and Lia Williams appearing in it. It was critically acclaimed and won the Laurence Olivier award for best new play in 1996.
