Katie Holmes daughter Suri thought bonding with her mom on Thursday was "the best day ever."

The actress filed legal papers to end her five-year marriage to Tom Cruise last week.

Katie has asked the court for sole custody of Suri, the six-year-old child she shares with Tom.

Katie took Suri out on a bonding day Thursday around New York City.

When they stopped in at Alice's Tea Cup to meet friends for lunch, Suri appeared to be in a great mood.

"Suri was extremely happy," an eyewitness told Us Weekly magazine. "She was looking at everything behind the counter and literally said, 'This is the best day ever!' "

Suri dined on French fries with a side of ketchup at lunch.

Earlier in the day Katie and Suri visited the Children's Museum of the Arts.

Suri picked up some goodies throughout the day, including a book, a feather headband and a star wand.
