Katy Perry was "trying to keep her marriage alive."

The singer is currently promoting her fly-on-the-wall documentary Part of Me 3D. It was produced from over 300 hours of film footage shot during her 2011 California Dreams world tour.

Katy's 14-month marriage with Russell Brand broke down towards the end of her performances. Before the pair split Katy was unwilling to go more than two weeks without seeing Russell.

Striking a balance was important to the singer.

"Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies," she revealed in the movie. "There's a lot more compromise and sacrifice. I'm trying to keep my marriage alive."

Later in December when Russell filed for a divorce a make-up free and upset Katy divulged to the camera her thoughts on the life-altering event.

"The truth is I'm a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale I did everything I could but it still failed," she shared. "The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work. I've got a second chance at a brilliant life." (C) Cover Media
