Kelly Rowland: My record is about women

8th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kelly Rowland is "excited" about her new album which represents "artistry", "freedom" and the power of womanhood.

After going platinum in 2007 with her album Ms. Kelly, the singer has been putting all of her efforts into her new body of work Here I Am. Kelly is elated about the diversity of music on her new record and she can't wait to share the songs with her fans.

"The album is amazing. I'm so excited about the album. I'm so excited for everyone to hear the rest of the album," said Kelly to MTV News.

"For a long time, I thought about, 'Should it be dance or should it be urban or should it be this or should it be that?' And I was like, 'Why am I allowing people to make me think like that?'

"[The album is] just about artistry, it's just about freedom."

Kelly did not limit herself to one specific genre with her new work. She explored all types of sounds. This album is a celebration of her life as a woman and an artist.

"It's just about music. It's about being alive and being happy and living life and being a woman, just feeling amazing," she said.

Most importantly Kelly wanted to share her love with fellow females around the world. The joys of womanhood abound on her record.

"That's what this album is about as well: It's the year of the woman," laughed Kelly. "You know what? We just have something that they don't, and it's not just one thing, it's many. We're always thinking. We feel. We just have extra power than they do. Sorry, we can't help ourselves!"

Kelly's album Here I Am will be in stores July 26th. (C) Cover Media
