Kevin Bacon struggles to bulk up

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kevin Bacon doesn't think any amount of gym time could make him look like Sebastian Shaw from the X-Men comics.

The actor portrays the super villain in new movie X-Men: First Class. In the comics the movie is based on the character has rippling muscles, but Kevin decided to go in another direction when it came to bringing him to the big screen. He hopes fans won't be disappointed when they see he hasn't beefed up, explaining he thinks they'd be unhappy if he'd tried and failed.

"He kind of looks like Benjamin Franklin on steroids. I'd have to spend a lot of time in the gym. I don't think any amount of time in the gym could get me looking like that guy," he laughed.

Shaw is able to take in any energy thrown at him during fights and the use it against his opponent. Playing a villain was fun for Kevin, who loves the fact that Shaw behaves differently depending on who he's talking to.

"I like him because he's evil, but he's smooth and suave and sort of charming," he told USA Today.

The X-Men comics weren't something the 52-year-old was interested in when he was growing up. He used all his spare money to buy records, but hopes his kids will take more of an interest. Travis, 21, and Sosie, 19, don't usually watch his movies, but he's sure that'll change this time round.

X-Men: First Class also stars January Jones and James McAvoy, which he knows is part of the appeal for his children. (C) Cover Media
