(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kim Kardashian has released a statement about her marriage coming to an end.

She spoke out to television network E! , which airs her reality show, and gave a brief insight into what went wrong.

The 31-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians starlet said that it was a hard decision to split with her husband Kris Humphries just 72 days since they tied the knot.

"After careful consideration I have decided to end my marriage," she said today. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision."

"I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Kim has cited "irreconcilable differences" in the legal papers filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court today.

It states that the couple have a prenuptial agreement and she has asked the court not to allow Kris any spousal support.

Kim listed that "any miscellaneous jewellery and other personal effects" as well as "earrings and accumulations" amassed by Kim before, during and after her marriage be dealt with as separate property.

However, it is not yet known if she will get to keep the $2 million, 20.5-carat diamond engagement ring that the basketball star gave to her when he proposed earlier this year.

Kim and Kris wed on August 20 in a lavish ceremony attended by 450 people in Montecito, California.

Since they have married Kim has been travelling a lot for work while Kris has been unemployed due to the NBA lockout affect this year's basketball season.

Long periods apart as well as their disagreements about future plans are rumoured to be behind the split. (C) Cover Media
