Kirsten Dunst recalls depression struggle

8th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kirsten Dunst has spoken out about her battle with depression, revealing she felt really vulnerable.

The actress checked into the Cirque Lodge rehab facility in Utah in 2008 and it was reported she was being treated for drug and alcohol issues. However, the 28-year-old star later revealed she was dealing with depression and felt she was losing control of her life. Kirsten feels she has finally dealt with her problems and can next be seen in All Good Things, where she plays a girl caught in a difficult relationship.

The beauty found it easy to identify with her character as she began shooting shortly after leaving rehab and she put everything into the performance.

"I know what it's like to lose yourself, to no longer know the difference between right or wrong," Kirsten explained in an interview with BlackBook magazine. "I was ready to play something like that. I had been living life on the surface, emotionally, and I was feeling really vulnerable, so I was prepared to do anything at that point."

Kirsten has confessed that at her lowest point she began to doubt her career and struggled to live in the public spotlight. She realised she needed to seek help, but found it frustrating when her loved ones were forced to deny rumours circulating about her treatment.

"I used to assume that I'd [continue acting] forever, and then there came a point in my life when I was like, 'Why am I doing this at all? she added. "My friends and family were put in a position where they had to defend me, and it was an awful time." (C) Cover Media
