Producer Kumar Mangat is keen to make a second instalment of his 2006 blockbuster film "Omkara", directed by filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. “I am thinking of the sequel. I think that film has huge prospect,” he says, adding that he plans to get the movie on floors by next year. “Nothing has been confirmed yet. I still have to sit and brainstorm with many people about this venture."
Co-written by Vishal Bhardwaj, Robin Bhatt and Abhishek Chaubey, the multi-starrer desi version of Shakespeare’s "Othello" won several awards including three National Awards in 2007.
The film, was amongst the highest grossers of 2006, which saw a star-cast of Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Konkona Sen Sharma along with Naseeruddin Shah. The film was not just critically acclaimed by also became one of the top grossing films of 2006.
Before Omkara’s sequel, Kumar had also shown interest in making the sequel to his teenage romantic-comedy film "Pyar Ka Punchnama". We will start shooting by mid-2012,” he adds. The film’s cast will be retained and the story will move ahead."
“There were quite a few ideas that we couldn't include in the film . We’ll put it all into the second one. We’re really excited.”
“It’s romantic-comedy ,” says Kumar, who is rumoured to be coming up with three big projects with top stars in February next year. There are so many formalities yet to be completed. I would not prefer to disclose anything right now.”
