Lea Michele changed her last name because she used to be called "Lea So-Fatty" at school.
The Glee star's real surname is Lea Sarfati.
However, Lea decided to give herself a new stage name because she didn't like all the teasing that came with such an unusual title.
"That's my real last name. I don't use it a lot because I got Lea So-fatty, Lea So-farty at school," she said "So when I was little and I went on my first audition they were like, And may we have your name,' and I was like Lea Michele'. And I've been Lea Michele ever since."
The actress was speaking on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday.
She wore a tiny gold dress with gold strappy sandals for the occasion. The talk show host was clearly impressed with Lea's long legs and made plenty of jokes about the length of her skirt.
"We're from Spain, got kicked out... went there, went there," Lea explained about the origins of her last name.
"Now why did you get kicked out? Was the skirt too short?" Jay quipped.
Despite the teasing the 25-year-old had a blast on the show.
She took to Twitter to express her gratitude.
"Just finished taping #JayLeno! Had the best time! Talked Bout #NewYearsEve and #Glee! You're the best Mr. Leno! (sic)," she gushed.
