(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mel Gibson didn't "touch a drop" of alcohol, despite running up a $250,000 tab on champagne.

The actor reportedly helped Petra Ecclestone and James Stunt spend a fortune on Cristal at Beacher's Madhouse in Los Angeles last week.

However, neither Mel nor James drink and were instead giving the alcohol out to fellow guests and friends.

"Neither of them touched a drop," and source told the New York Post. "They were handing it out to everyone else."

Mel has a well publicised history with alcohol. The star was convicted of driving under the influence back in 2006.

Mel now appears to have turned over a new leaf and looked "pretty relaxed and chilled" according to onlookers.

Mel wasn't interested in women who tried to engage him in conversation and instead enjoyed the company of his friends. The trio left the party at around 2am, with James eventually paying the bill.

Formula One Heiress Petra recently married entrepreneur James. The pair wed in August at Odescalchi Castle near Rome, Italy.

Their wedding reportedly cost around $8 million with Petra's Vera Wang dress costing $125,000 alone. (C) Cover Media
