Michael Douglas To Be Honored At The Palm Springs Film Festival

December 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): 66 year old Hollywood actor Michael Douglas will reportedly be presented with the Icon Award at this years 'Palm Springs International Film Festival' to be held on the 13th next month in California. According to a spokesman for the film festival, the platform is the best place and the best time for honoring the achievements of a Hollywood actor who has three Golden Globes and two Oscars to his name in a career spanning more than four decades. The Icon Award will celebrate Michael Douglas contribution to Hollywood cinema. Reports suggest that Palm Springs has organized for a tete-a-tete with the actor along with the prize distribution ceremony. Michael Douglas latest film Solitary Man will also be showcased at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Earlier this year, Michael Douglas had been diagnosed with throat cancer. While his fans were heartbroken over the news, the actor has shown courage and has faced his illness very sportingly. Not only does Michael Douglas still perform chores like taking his daughter to school even though he has undergone chemotherapy, the actor is also keen to start work on his next project which is a biopic on Liberace.

Darryl MacDonald, the director of the Palm Springs International Film Festival said in a statement to the media that he feels honored to be able to present the Icon Award to Michael Douglas. Describing the actor as a treasure that America should cherish, Darryl MacDonald says that Michael Douglas has contributed to not only Hollywood but also the world cinema.
