(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nicole Richie has celebrated her 30th birthday with two Hollywood parties.

The designer-and-reality-TV-star started her big day by having lunch with some girlfriends. This was followed by a night out with friends, family and husband Joel Madden.

The petite blonde whose birthday is September 21 - looked stunning at her birthday bash in a red evening gown, with Good Charlotte singer Joel keen to make her day as special as possible.

"Oh what a night," he tweeted. "Too many special people to name. Happy birthday to my beautiful wife. Thanks to all our friends for celebrating with us."

Nicole took to Twitter to express her excitement about her birthday earlier this week. The star discussed what gifts she was hoping to receive, giving her grandmother a special hint about what she wanted.

"My grandma better step it up this year & give me a 10 dollar bill for my birthday tomorrow!" she wrote.

She returned to the site following her big day, and proved she'd hit the landmark age with good grace. She tweeted a photograph of herself and Joel with the caption "Mr. And Mrs. Over the Hill".

Nicole became famous for starring with then-best friend Paris Hilton in the hit reality TV show The Simple Life. She was known as a wild child and had run-ins with the police as well as trips to rehab and wild nights out in her twenties. However, in the last few years Nicole has changed her crazy ways.

She settled down with the Joel, who she married in 2010, and is mom to daughter Harlow Winter Kate, three, and son Sparrow James Midnight, who is two. (C) Cover Media
