Orlando Bloom: I love being the bad guy

17th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Orlando Bloom was "immediately excited" at the prospect of playing a "bad boy" in The Three Musketeers.

The British actor plays the Duke of Buckingham in the action adventure remake.

Orlando is generally known for playing the good guys in movies, so was thrilled when director Paul W.S Anderson approached him to play a roguish character.

"They called me and said We're making The Three Musketeers, your name came up and we're thinking Duke of Buckingham' and I'm thinking Great'. Because honestly, you know, I think possibly people would have thought of me as one of the musketeers or something, and the fact that they were thinking of me for the Duke was to me, immediately exciting. I got to play a wee bit of a bad boy," he told Collider.

"He's sort of a rogue and a bit of a bad boy."

Orlando enjoyed filming for the movie, which is based on the novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas. The 34-year-old loved the complex character of the Duke.

"I had a lot of fun doing it. I had a lot of fun. He represents the power of the British Empire. The Duke of Buckingham historically was the King of England's favourite courtier. He was incredibly wealthy; he had a lot of power and influence because he was the King's favourite," he explained.

"He had a questionable sexual background and he liked to go off and have fun and I had a lot of fun getting out of an airship and arriving in France and stirring the pot as it were." (C) Cover Media
