(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Penlope Cruz says fame is a modern concept and insists she never dreamed of being a celebrity.

The Spanish-born actress has achieved considerable success in Hollywood, including winning an Oscar for her role in 2008 movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She grew up wanting to be an actress and landed her first role when she was just 16. Penlope has only ever been interested in acting because she feels passionate about performing, insisting she has never been interested by the trappings of the entertainment industry.

I didnt think about fame when I was younger. Its a very modern concept; it matters to teenagers now but it was something completely different for me when I was growing up, she revealed in an interview with GQ. There was no internet, just two, three TV channels. Im not on Twitter. Or Facebook. I miss the time when people wrote letters to each other. Its very sad. I belong to another age the 40s, or the 50s.

The 37-year-old star can next be seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, alongside Johnny Depp. Penlope has developed a reputation for testing herself with her acting roles and has showed a flair for drama, comedy and even musicals.

Although the actress is happy with her career, she regrets not taking more time to enjoy other things in her life. She has been working since she was a teenager and wishes she had listened to her parents, who often urged her to take a break.

Looking back to when I was 17, I wish I could have told myself to rest. I was so excited. And I was never interested in going out and getting drunk. I had my wild time later, when I was 20, she explained. Every night I went to bed, when I was eight or nine, it wasnt all about fame, it was about waking up every day and doing something for a living I loved. I was obsessed with that. When it started to happen, I couldnt believe it and I didnt want it to go. My parents were begging me to slow down. But I didnt listen. That would be my advice take some time for myself. And just do nothing for a bit. (C) Cover Media
