PINA sees long queues at MAMI on Day 5

17th October 2011

PINA, the French-German film directed by Wim Wenders on the life of, and for Pina Bausch was undoubtedly on the people's 'to watch' list on Day 5 of MAMI.

The movie, which was supposed to start at 5:45 pm, saw enthusiasts waiting outside the auditorium in a long queue, three hours prior to the screening. The queue was so long that the organisers announced a repeat screening of the movie at 10 pm in the night. After a point, some people, tired of standing for so long, actually sat on the floor and started doing their own work. Right from a group of people playing cards to another bunch of people who started working on their laptops, everyone seemed to find something or another to do while in the queue just to catch a film.

Movies such as 'Sleeping Beauty', '17 Girls', 'Revolution Revisited' and 'Fabienne' were the other highlights for the day.

The day also saw a packed house discussing the portrayal of gay and lesbianism in new Indian Cinema. Tarun Mansukhani, Aseem Chabbra, Onir, Rajit Kapoor, Sridhar Rangayan and Rajeev Masand were present. In the evening Gajendra Ahire, Alka Kubal- Athalye, Rajesh Pinjani and Samrudhi Pore discussed about the focus on the Marathi film industry.

Along with all the movie buffs, celebrity guests for the day included Yash Chopra, Ramesh Sippy along with wife Kiran and son Rohan Sippy, Shabana Azmi, Tarun Mansukhani, Anurag Kashyap, Rohan Sippy, Abhishek Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Shahana Goswami and Rajit Kapoor amongst many others. What is surprising to see is that these celebrities are receiving no special treatment when it comes to standing in queues. The rule of "First-come-first" is applicable to everyone alike.

The Day 5 of the Film Festival ended with a lot of excitement. Day 6 has some very good movies to look forward to. Everyone better hurry now, supposing the queues are too long. Day 6… We are coming!
