17th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Natalie Portman and Colin Firth were the big winners at last nights 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The prestigious US ceremony, which honours achievement in film and television both domestically and abroad, took place at the exclusive Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles yesterday evening.

As predicted by many movie experts, Natalie took home the coveted Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama prize for her role as ballerina Nina Sayers in the thriller Black Swan, while British actor Colin received the male equivalent for his portrayal of King George VI in The Kings Speech.

Other top gongs went to David Finchers drama The Social Network, which was honoured as the best drama. Meanwhile, hit US show Glee scooped the award for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical, with its stars Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer also receiving prizes for their acting. The best supporting actor and actress awards went to Christian Bale and Melissa Leo respectively, with both stars receiving gongs for their parts in biographical drama The Fighter.

When Natalie received her prize the beautiful star who is currently pregnant with her and choreographer fianc Benjamin Millepieds first child together made a self-deprecating joke. Natalie laughed that Benjamin, who has a small role in the picture, had to act as though he didnt find her attractive in the movie as his character has to say he would not sleep with Nina.

"He's the best actor - he totally wants to sleep with me," laughed Natalie.

Colin, 50, also made a joke upon scooping the prestigious acting prize, laughing that having career success has helped him cope with growing older.

"This is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson, so I owe you a very great debt," he laughed.
