Prince William wants rappers for concert'

24th February 2012

Britain's Prince William wants a host of American music stars to perform at a concert this summer.

The future king's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year and a variety of events are being planned.

William wants to ensure the Diamond Jubilee concert, to be held in June, will be a show to remember and has asked organiser Gary Barlow to travel to the US and secure a list of his favourite acts.

"I've got to go to America because some of the requests I have are from the princes, so they're acts I've got to follow up on," Gary told British newspaper The Mirror.

"I try to meet all the artists because then they feel more engaged, they're more in tune with what's going on.

"I know as an artist myself, often you turn up at these events and you don't really know what they're for, or what it's about. It's so vital that everybody knows how important this event is for Britain. So I'll try to meet everybody."

Gary shot to fame with the boy band Take That and is currently a judge on the UK version of The X Factor. He has hinted that his group may even perform at the concert but has remained silent on whether Robbie Williams could join them again.

"You never know whether Take That will play," he teased. "We'll be announcing more names every month, so look out."

William and his brother Prince Harry are believed to be eager to see Kanye West and P. Diddy take to the stage. Both stars thrilled the royal brothers with their performances at the Concert for Diana in 2007.

The Diamond Jubilee concert will be staged outside Buckingham Palace and will be broadcast to billions around the world.

Acts already confirmed to appear include Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and Brit Award winner Ed Sheeran.
