Dam999, a 3-D film made by a debutant director from Kerala has touched a raw nerve in Tamil Nadu with political parties demanding a ban on its release, as it shows the destructive aftermath of a catastrophe following a dam collapse, which many allege was an indirect reference to the contentious Mullaiperiyar dam issue.

On Tuesday, political parties in Tamil Nadu, including DMK, MDMK and PMK on Tuesday demanded a ban on the release of Hollywood film Dam 999 in the country, saying it depicts the scenario of the collapse of century-old Mullaiperiyar Dam over which Tamil Nadu is locked in a row with Kerala.

Also, a group of MDMK cadres allegedly barged into Prasad Film Laboratories in Saligramam and damaged property ahead of a preview of the disaster flick, which resulted in 23 MDMK cadres being arrested by the police.

"The Kerala government is behind this movie, Dam 999. The film depicts a disaster showing lakhs of people perishing when a dam collapses. This is highly condemnable as it depicts the Mullaiperiyar Dam," DMK Parliamentary leader T R Baalu told reporters in New Delhi.
