Ralph Fiennes: I enjoyed scaring children

17th January 2012

Ralph Fiennes was "happy" to have scared a child in his Harry Potter costume.

The actor portrayed evil wizard Lord Voldemort in all of the popular movie series' instalments.

Recalling an incident when a little boy started to cry upon seeing him in his scary costume, the star revealed that his own inner child was pleased with the reaction.

He added that at the age of 49, he doesn't have a strong paternal instinct.

"I wasn't trying to scare him, but he saw me - I didn't look like the Voldemort on the screen, but the child cried. The little boy in me was happy to have scared someone. Not in a serious way - of course not," he told Details magazine. "[I don't want children.] Not at the moment, anyway. I haven't made any firm decisions. But I can't say right now that I have a huge parental urge.

Ralph also talked about his turn in romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan.

In the movie, he plays a politician who falls for a hotel maid in a case of mistaken identity.

The Schindler's List star admitted the movie might have not been one of his best career choices, but praised co-star Jennifer Lopez' performance.

"People would say, When are you going to play something light-hearted? You always play dark, serious types or bad guys.' Then Maid in Manhattan came along. I enjoyed making it and have huge respect for J.Lo, who was, I think, terribly good in it. But that sort of light comic thing is probably not my strength," he said.
