Taylor Swift: Love makes me stupid

17th January 2012

Taylor Swift says being "really, really in love" makes her "ridiculously stupid".

The country singer is gracing the February cover of fashion bible Vogue's US edition and has spoken frankly about the heartache that has inspired her next album.

The 22-year-old has previously been linked to a host of A-List suitors, including Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal.

The songwriter has always been open about her heartbreak experiences, with her track Dear John rumoured to be about Mayer.

"I think I am smart unless I am really, really in love, and then I am ridiculously stupid. [At the moment] I got nothing going on! I just don't really feel like dating," she told Vogue. "There's just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak and that will turn out to be what the next album is about. The only way that I can feel better about myself - pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone - is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity."

The blonde beauty also revealed her dating no-nos.

Perhaps in a dig at one of her high-profile exes, she said she couldn't be with a famous man who is trying to hide their relationship.

"I can't deal with someone who's obsessed with privacy. People kind of care if there are two famous people dating. But no one cares that much. If you care about privacy to the point where we need to dig a tunnel under this restaurant so that we can leave? I can't do that," she said.

Despite her on-going global success, the star admitted she worries about the future.

Taylor said that if you believe your own hype you risk losing everything.

"Even though I am at a place where my dresses are really pretty and the red carpets have a lot of bright lights and I get to play to thousands of people you have to take that with a grain of salt. The stakes are really high if you mess up, if you slack off and don't make a good record, if you make mistakes based on the idea that you are larger than life and you can just coast," she said.

"If you start thinking you've got it down, that's when you run into trouble - either by getting complacent or becoming mouthy. And nobody likes that."

When asked if she ever gets feisty herself, Taylor added that she feels guilty after those rare diva moments.

Known for her gracious, ladylike demeanour, she admitted she frets about whether she has been rude at times.

"If I do I usually spend the next four days apologising," she said. "I get post-conversation anxiety. I am so sorry if I said something weird. Did I make that weird? I am sorry if I made that weird!'" she laughed.
