We remember the great Hindi actor, producer, director and politician on this special day as he turns 83. Though Sunil Dutt passed away, he is still remembered on this lovely day.
Sunil Dutt, whose actual name was Balraj Dutt, was born in the village of Khurd in the Jalandhar District of Punjab. Due to the partition and financial constraints, Dutt later moved to Lucknow and spent a long time in Aminabad Galli during his graduation and also to fulfil his dreams to move to Mumbai. When he moved to Mumbai, he joined Jai Hindi College as an undergraduate and took up a job.
Dutt started out in radio where is was hugely popular on the Hindi Service of Radio Ceylon. He later moved onto acting and his first debut film was 'Railway Station'. He shot to fame when he played the son of Nargis in 'Mother India', his co-star who he later married on 11th March 1958.
Besides 'Mother India', Dutt starred in many successful films like 'Sadhna', 'Sujata', 'Mujhe Jeene Do', 'Khandaan', 'Padosan' and many more. He then collaborated with B. R. Chopra and proved to be successful in films such as 'Gumraah', 'Waqt' and 'Hamraaz'.
After ritiring from movies, he joined the political world and was the cabinet minister for Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh government. He later joined the Congress party and was elected to Parliament for five years from the constituency of Mumbai North West. He was honoured with the Padma Shri by the government of India.
He has also won many awards in his acting career like Filmfare Best Actor Award, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, Zee Cine Award of Lifetime Achievement and many more.
Sunil Dutt who married Nargis (passed away in 1981) has a son Sanjay Dutt and two daughters, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt.
Dutt passed away due to an heart attack, while he was alseep in his Bandra residence.
Though he is no more with us, every movie of his on TV definitely brings back old memories.
