October 23, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Film: Hisss
Cast: Mallika Sherawat, Divya Dutta, Irrfan Khan, Priyanka Rawat, Jeff Doucette
Director: Jennifer Lynch
Genre: Supernatural/Horror
Mallika Sherawat is all set to sizzle the screen in the iteration of a snake goddess. Most Indians are well acquainted with a 'nagin' in films, but Hisss promises Mallika is going to change the audiences perception about the genre. The new movie provides a unique take on the story of the Ichhadhari Nagin.
The film is set at the backdrop of an island in the Malabar coast and this is where the snake goddess, played by Mallika Sherawat, resides along with the King Cobra inside a temple. The legend goes that anybody visiting the temple have to pay their respects to the snake goddess, failing which they will be cursed with infertility. It is an American scientist (Jeff Doucette) who captures the King Cobra and carries him away to his laboratory that draws the ire of the snake goddess. Anyone coming her way gets bitten and mutilated in ways that will shock the audience. Irrfan Khan plays the role of a detective who is investigating the mysterious murders.
Mallika Sherawat, on the other hand, plays the role of an angry snake woman with perfection. She dances and kills with equal panache and it is her body which is the USP of the film.
The music by Alexander Von Bubenheim provides a spine-chilling backdrop to the horror flick. If you want to see a horror flick with generous doses of Mallikas curves then Hisss is the perfect movie for you. And still Hisss fails to impress critics!
