(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rihanna brings it in her performance for upcoming movie Battleship.

The 22-year-old makes her big screen debut in the action film based on the classic board game where players try to sink their opponents ships. Rihanna plays weapons officer Raikes and the story will focus on a fleet of ships forced to do battle with a mysterious armada.

Even though she has limited experience in making movies, Rihannas co-star Josh Pence has praised the singer and said she showed real talent when they worked together.

"I had a scene with Rihanna. She was great! She brought it," he told MTV News. It's a great cast. It'll be a fun movie.

Rihanna has previously said she loves her characters lethal combination of brains and a feisty attitude. Her connection to the role appears to have paid off, with Josh saying she was fully committed to her performance. He is in awe of singers who try their hand at acting because he realises the pressure on them to succeed and win over critics.

"She came in, and I respect the fact that she's willing to put a lot on the line, and it's like Justin [Timberlake] with The Social Network," he added. "You know, they've got a lot to lose and a lot of people judging them. It takes a lot of courage."

Other stars appearing in the movie which is scheduled to be released in 2012 - include Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgrd, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker. (C) Cover Media
