Royal couple host $1 million dinner

14th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge raised around $1 million at a charity event last night.

The royal couple hosted a gala dinner for 100 Women in Hedge Funds at St James's Palace in London. The philanthropic organisation works with other non-profit groups to help them raise more money.

The occasion was in aid of the Child Bereavement Charity which supports families both when a child dies and when a child is bereaved. Prince William was thrilled with the evening.

"What you [the two charities] are both doing together to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost family members, and bereaved families who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child, is beyond praise," he said in a speech at the black tie event.

William is a patron of the Child Bereavement Charity. The subject is very close to his heart after he and his younger brother Prince Harry lost their mother Princess Diana when they were just 13 and 15 years old respectively.

The young couple both looked stunning at last night's dinner. William was wearing a tuxedo and Catherine wore a floor length scarlet gown.

Ann Chalmers, chief executive of the Child Bereavement Charity, was delighted with the evening.

"The Child Bereavement Charity is immensely grateful to have been chosen as beneficiary of 100 Women in Hedge Funds London Gala," she said. "Funds raised will be transformational in helping us extend our reach to more bereaved children, families and professionals throughout the UK." (C) Cover Media
