Russell Brand has been "left off the list of attendees" for the People's Choice Awards, it has been reported.

The 36-year-old comedian filed for divorce from Katy Perry last week.

In order to prevent an awkward confrontation from occurring, event organisers for the awards show have decided not to include Russell on the invitation list.

"It will be Katy's big night, a prelude to the Grammys, and now Russell has been strangely left off the list of attendees for the high-profile event," a source told British newspaper The Mirror.

"It was always going to be awkward for organisers in any case after their shock decision to split. But in order to avoid any awkwardness or confrontation Russ is no longer on the list."

Katy has been nominated for awards in seven categories, including Favourite Female Artist.

She is scheduled to appear at the awards show in Los Angeles on January 11 and is expected to perform in Jakarta and Manila later this month.
