(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ryan Reynolds agreed to appear in his latest movie because of its risqu content.
The actor stars in The Change-up, directed by famed Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin, alongside Jason Bateman. It is a dark comedy about two formerly close friends who drifted apart and then merge lives by miraculously switching bodies with each other during a drunken night out. After the swap the pair try not to destroy the other's life.
"The R rating is the reason that I'm here," Reynolds told Collider.com, "You do all the things you wish you could have seen in those other movies."
The stars loved the trouble their characters got into as it was so fun to act. Jason had particular praise for the scriptwriters, who came up with some hilarious incidents.
"They've really done a great job by putting us in as risqu and gratuitous situations as possible, but having the characters be charmingly underwater," Bateman says, "Most of the time they're not driving these unseemly situations, they're a victim of them."
Being bad in both bodies was not particularly difficult for the pair. In fact, the actors found the challenge quite enjoyable.
"Yeah, I think for both of us, it's an actor's dream," says Bateman, "It's Jekyll and Hyde, you get to play both sides of it. We both spent time playing this guy, but when you play this guy and switch back and do the other guy and vice versa, it kind of allows you to spread out your bookends a little bit more, the borders, the goalposts. It's a great challenge comedically."
Ryan is Mitch in the movie, while Jason is Dave. It's due for release later this year. (C) Cover Media
