SAC to head Producers Council

10th October 2011

S A Chandrasekar, who is currently the acting president of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC), was on Sunday elected as the president of the council at the end of the counting of votes polled earlier in the day.

Chandrasekar, who is the father of top star Vijay, had taken over as the president of TFPC in May this year, after the erstwhile chief Rama Narayanan resigned from the post following the DMK’s loss in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, fresh elections were conducted on Sunday after some members opposed SAC assuming the office 'unilaterally'.

While S Thanu from Chandrasekar’s ‘Thayaarippaalar Nalan Kaakum Ani’ was elected as the treasurer, T Siva and T G Thyagarajan from KR-led ‘Tamilnadu Thayarippalargal Munnetra Ani’ were elected to the post of vice president of the council. P L Thenappan and K Muralidharan were elected as secretaries.

More than 600 out of the 770 votes were polled as per the sources. Much mudslinging and finger-pointing has taken place between the two teams. While Chandrasekar’s team has accused certain members of the previous team, of corruption, producers in KR’s team have reminded SAC that he was an important office-bearer in the same team that he now accuses of corruption. Both teams have made assurances towards the welfare of small producers, as their poll plank.
