Salman Khan found guilty in Blackbuck poaching case, sentenced 5 year jail

5th April 2018

Salman Khan arrived in Jodhpur today for the verdict on 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. The 52-year-old actor is found guilty of killing two blackbucks. Jodhpur court charged him with five years imprisonment under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of the Indian Penal Code and Rs.10,000 penalty.

If Salman is not allocated immediate bail he will have to go to the Jodhpur Central Jail and appeal to a higher court for bail. For nearly two decades, Khan and his defence argued in the court that he was not armed, that he had an air gun that doesn't kill.

Reports suggest that the animals died of "overeating" or that they were killed by dogs were also submitted in court. 28 witnesses including the members of the Bishnoi community were herd in the court who came out running from their huts on hearing gunshots. The Bishnois claimed that they chased down the gipsy but the actor ran away after shooting down the Blackbuck.

It all began when Khan went on a casual hunting session with his 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Tabu who were later accused of killing two blackbucks in Kankani in the intervening night of October 1-2, 1998.

Salman's co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam have also reached the trial court in Jaipur. ANI reported in a tweet ''Jodhpur: Police personnel deployed outside Jodhpur court ahead of the verdict in Blackbuck poaching case. Saif Ali Khan,Neelam & Sonali Bendre's lawyer says,'if they are found guilty then there is equal punishment for all. Maximum punishment will be for six years & minimum one year.''
