Samantha Morton: Hollywood prefers pretty stars

29th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Samantha Morton has blasted Hollywood for giving movie roles to females based on their looks.

The British actress is best known for her roles in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Libertine and Minority Report.

Samantha says the film industry is sadly obsessed with looks and gets frustrated when models replace talented actresses on the big screen purely because they are "pretty".

"Nowadays, you get models being offered film parts because they're pretty, or they've had a couple of acting lessons...It's part of the celebrity culture we live in," she explained in an interview with Total Film magazine.

Samantha is often compared to Emily Watson, who appeared in Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves. The 34-year-old star says she can see the resemblance, and also admits she gets compared to designer Stella McCartney too.

"I get people coming up to me saying, Emily, I loved you in Breaking the Waves'. I don't know if she's ever had Sam!'" she laughed. "Maybe it's the eyes we've both got big eyes and foreheads. I get Stella McCartney a lot too..." (C) Cover Media
