(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to help support the Japanese relief effort.

The 46-year-old Hollywood actress decided to make the generous donation after a devastating earthquake hit the East coast of Japan last Friday, which in turn caused a destructive tsunami.

So far there have been thousands of confirmed deaths, and many more people are still missing, while the country is trying to cool off overheating fuel at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Charities such as the Red Cross have been doing their best to help those affected by the quake, and a spokesperson for the American Red Cross has revealed Sandras heart-warming act of generosity.

"The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family," read a statement from the organisation. "This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan."

This isnt the first time the talented actress has displayed such kindness. After the horrific destruction caused to the Caribbean country of Haiti following an earthquake in January 2010, Sandra donated $1 million to the charity Doctors Without Borders.

Sandra isnt the only star to have been moved by events in Japan. When news of the tremor hit the headlines last week an array of celebrities took to social-networking site Twitter to express their dismay, including Tori Spelling, Chris Brown, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. According to The Chicago Sun-Times, Disney singer-and-actress Demi Lovato has offered to donate 666,670 to help support the Japan relief fund. Stars such as Clint Eastwood, Katy Perry and Charlie Sheen have also made donations. (C) Cover Media
