Sarabjit biopic to be screened at Cannes

12th October 2015

Director Omung Kumar plans to take his next prestigious project a biopic based on Sarabjit Singh to Cannes International Film Festival in 2016.

He said, "National Award was unexpected for me and I have always thought about Oscars so let's see. We’re thinking to open it (the film) in Cannes on May 20."

An Indian farmer, who was convicted of being a spy and spreading terrorism by Pakistani officials, was put behind the bars and was sentenced to death.

Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur will play a very crucial role in it, as the film will be her point view. Title role will be played by Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will portray Dalbir Kaur in the movie.

After delivering a blockbuster starring Priyanka Chopra 'Mary Kom'; he feels it's an immense pressure as he marches to his next. "Obviously there is pressure as 'Mary Kom' had delivered and now people want to know if Sarabjit is just another biopic or will rise above it. We're wishing for and hoping that it works off well," he added.
